What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that involves vacuuming fat from under the surface of the skin. Liposuction will reduce excess fat from targeted areas of the body. Liposuction can effectively contour specific body areas. However, liposuction is not an effective way to lose substantial amounts of weight.
How much does liposuction cost?
The total cost for a liposuction procedure will depend on the amount of fat to be removed and the number of areas that you need to have treated. New York City plastic surgeon, George Lefkovits, M.D., offers financing to help make liposuction and other cosmetic surgery procedures more affordable for his patients.
How do I know if I am a good candidate for liposuction?
If you are considering liposuction, it is important that you have realistic expectations for your results. Liposuction is best for healthy people who are near their ideal body weight and want to improve targeted fatty areas. Dr. Lefkovits will not perform liposuction on patients under the age of 18 years old or patients who have had significant medical problems such as heart disease, lung disease or diabetes. Like other surgical procedures, liposuction carries certain unavoidable risks such as infection, bleeding, blood clots and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Dr. Lefkovits will discuss these and all risks during your consultation.
I have heard that there are different types of liposuction. What are they and what is the difference?
In addition to traditional liposuction, New York City plastic surgeon, George Lefkovits, M.D., offers tumescent liposuction and ultrasonic liposuction. With tumescent liposuction, the patient is injected with salt water containing lidocaine and small amounts of adrenaline. This injection will numb the affected area while shrinking the patient’s blood vessels. The layer of fat under your skin will expand, which makes it easier for Dr. Lefkovits to remove it.
Ultrasonic liposuction is also referred to as Ultrasound Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL). A specialized liposuction cannula is used to emit high frequency sound waves. This causes the fat to liquefy to make it easier to remove.
What are the most frequently treated areas of the body?
Liposuction is used to remove excess fat deposits from targeted areas of the body. The most commonly treated areas are the hips, thighs, flanks, legs, abdomen, buttocks, arms, neck, face and back.
