I am considering breast reduction surgery but I am worried about scarring? What do you suggest?
Breast reduction surgery leaves the patient with minimal scarring. Similar to a breast lift procedure, the incisions are made around the areola and down along the edge of the breast. Using a liposuction vacuum, Dr. Lefkovits removes the excess fat, tissue and skin. Then, the areola and nipple are moved higher on the breast in order to make the breast look healthier as it is reshaped. Although there will be some scarring, any scars can easily be hidden by a bra or bathing suit.
How do I know if I am a good candidate for a breast reduction?
The best candidates for breast reduction surgery are those that feel self-conscious about the size of their breasts or those whose breasts lead to neck, back or shoulder pain. If this sounds like you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Lefkovits to discuss your specific needs and goals.
What are the risks associated with breast reduction surgery?
Similar to any surgical procedure, there are some unavoidable risks associated with breast reduction surgery. These risks include infection and complications from anesthesia. However, if you choose an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Lefkovits, these risks can be reduced.
How long will I be out of work?
Although you will be sore and tired for a number of days, most breast reduction patients are able to return to work within a week or two. We suggest you avoid exercise or any strenuous activities for about six weeks. In general, we suggest you are as gentle as possible in this time.
