Questions About Breast Enlargement Surgery

Manhattan New York Breast Enlargement Surgery by Dr. LefkovitsAm I a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation is a good solution for women who are self-conscious about their breast size, the shape of their breasts, or don't feel comfortable with the way they look in a swimsuit or form-fitting top. Other women may choose breast enlargement surgery with a breast lift when their breasts begin to sag, especially after having children.

How long will I need to take off work?
Breast augmentation surgery typically leaves the patient tired and sore for several days after the procedure. Most women can return to work within a few days and move on to more strenuous activity in about a month.

What are the best types of implants?
Dr. Lefkovits will work with you to help you decide whether traditional round implants or more natural shaped implants are the best option considering your body type and the look you desire. The FDA limits the use of gel filled implants because of safety reasons. Dr. Lefkovits only uses saline implants for his breast augmentation patients.

What are the risks of breast enlargement surgery?
The greatest risks associated with breast enlargement surgery involve the possibility of infection, bleeding, blood clots, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Over the long term, there is a slight risk that the implant will burst or leak.

What about Mammograms?
A breast implant will not completely prevent you from getting an accurate reading from a mammogram. You will, however, need to visit an experienced mammography technician who understands a special technique to ensure reliable readings.

Will I be able to breast feed after breast augmentation surgery?
Breast implants typically do not affect a woman's ability to breast feed. However, if you are pregnant or still breast feeding, you should wait to undergo breast augmentation surgery. Be sure to consult with Dr. Lefkovits about this issue before you make a decision.

Please call or e-mail us at our New York area plastic surgery office if you have any further questions about breast augmentation surgery or would like to schedule a consultation.
